La Plantation is a lush oasis situated in the heart of Phnom Penh, and the perfect getaway from the hustle and bustle of the city for holidaymakers and expats alike.
Entering from st. 184, visitors are greeted by the sight of a very well maintained French colonial era building, in a sheltered courtyard filled with lush vegetation and the sounds birds chirping. If you didn’t know better, you would think that you had just been transported miles from the centre of Phnom Penh and into a tropical garden of eden.
The Pool
Shaded by the many mature trees in the gardens, visitors are welcome to spend the day in one of the many private pagodas that line the pool. This is free as long as you spend $8USD per person on food and drink from one of the hotel’s two restaurants.
Before the invention of air conditioning hotels had to be designed in a way that kept their guests cool, even in sweltering sub-tropical heat, and the pool at La Plantation does just that. The quadrangle that make up the hotel rooms, combined with the well designed gardens, shelter guests from the strength of the sun.
La Plantation Food and Drinks
The poolside restaurant offers a good selection of western food and Khmer favourites, it also boasts an extensive wine and cocktail menu, as well as Kingdom IPA if you don’t fancy the standard selection of local beers.
The food at La Plantation is generally of a good standard, however, some of the dishes are a on the small side compared to the portion sizes elsewhere in Phnom Penh. In fact, the condiment pots for the fish and chips were larger than the fish! If you’re hungry, go for one of the Pizzas which were very tasty and all in all decent value.
